As the Senior Employee Relations (ER) Advisor, you will be working with the ER Team Manager, MyER team, HRBP and management teams to provide professional, commercially driven, proactive and timely advice and support on all facets of employee relations. Including the development of ER processes, employment contracts, HR policy and procedure.

You will be providing assistance to the ER Team Manager in offering an effective, efficient and cost-driven service to the business in relation to the management of caseload and projects.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert employment law advice, particularly relating to employment contracts, ACAS Early Conciliation, industrial relations, TUPE, change management, discrimination, restructures, redundancy, performance management, absence management and disciplinary, capability and grievance matters
  • Deputising for the ER Team Manager when appropriate
  • Confidently supporting ER Advisors with advice and guidance to ensure consistent, impartial, commercial advice is given
  • Monitoring and evaluating the customer service levels with the team, with a view to identifying and implementing process improvement to deliver a service which exceeds business expectations
  • Providing analysis of trends and statistics in terms of contact with the ER team
  • Developing, planning and delivering team induction
  • Coaching and supporting the development of the ER team
  • Leading and advising on all TUPE related matters
  • Reviewing and suggesting improvement to systems, processes and procedures
  • Pro-actively working in partnership with the field-based HR and management teams to provide expert employment relations support/guidance including the provision of legal updates
  • Developing effective working relationships within the business to promote positive, proactive and fair employee relations across the organisation, including the provision of training
  • Proactively updating the business on legislation and best practice via electronic communication and training
  • Assisting with policy development, understanding changes in legislation and providing support to implement appropriate changes within the busines
  • Proactively managing and undertaking project work
  • Liaising with external bodies, working to improve all policies and remaining up to date with market trends
  • Monitoring trends in employment practices and advising on appropriate proactive action

Experience required:


  • Degree Level or equivalent
  • CIPD level 5 certificate
  • Competent level of IT skills (Excel/Power point/Word)

Working experience/Personal attributes

  • Strong experience in an HR or ER advisory role, from a fast-paced environment. Must be able to demonstrate an aptitude for a wide range of HR disciplines
  • Strong demonstrable understanding of Complex Employee Relations matters and UK employment legislation with practical implementation of employment policy
  • TUPE knowledge and application
  • Training experience is desirable
  • Must be motivated, enthusiastic and show initiative, with an ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to develop junior members of the team effectively
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Willingness and motivation to continually further develop themselves by keeping abreast of new legislation and best practices in relation to HR policies and processes
